You May Be Putting Your Driver At Risk

Some disturbing news has been released after a study done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The study found that passengers are less likely to wear their seatbelts when sitting in the backseat, an issue that puts the front passengers at a higher risk for injury and even death. Passengers feel safer when sitting in the back, but have they thought about what could happen to the front passengers in the event of a collision?

Of those surveyed, 91% of passengers said they always wear their seatbelt when sitting in the front seat, while only 72% said they do in the backseat. For the people who regularly use services such at Uber or Lyft, the percentage was even smaller. This is an issue because, according to the University of Virginia, the chances of a driver being fatally injured in a crash more than doubles if the person behind them isn't wearing a seatbelt.

Wearing your seatbelt when sitting in the backseat can save a life so always wear it!
